World Blood Donor Day Observed in DPRK
Pyongyang, June 14 (KCNA) -- An event took place here Thursday to mark World Blood Donor Day.

Present there were officials in the field of public health, voluntary blood donors, students of Pyongyang Medical College of Kim Il Sung University and employees of Blood Transfusion . Also present were members of the WHO mission in the DPRK, the delegation of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies working in the DPRK and the delegation of the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Kang Ha Guk, vice-minister of Public Health, made a speech to be followed by congratulatory speeches by Yonas Tegegen Woldemariam, representative of the WHO in the DPRK, and Jim Charles Dawe, acting head of the delegation of the Federation working in the DPRK.

The speakers referred to the significance of the Day and blood transfusion services now under way with the help of the WHO and the Federation.

They called for safe blood supply for people's health and life to suit the theme of the WHO for this year.

Certificates and souvenirs were handed over to voluntary blood donors at the event.

The participants enjoyed an art performance given by the art squad of the Central Committee of the Kim Il Sung Socialist Youth League, before looking round photos on display and playing sports and amusement games.

The Day was also observed in all provinces on the same day.
