Inter-Korean Declaration, Fruition of Kim Jong Il's Patriotism
Pyongyang, June 13 (KCNA) -- Twelve years has passed since the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration, a milestone of Korea's reunification, was adopted at the inter-Korean summit held in Pyongyang for the first time in the history of national division.

The summit in June Juche 89 (2000) was attributable to leader Kim Jong Il's idea and line of national independence and great national unity as well as his strong sense of patriotism and Songun (military-first) leadership.

It is one of his distinguished feats for the times and the nation that he paved a way for independent reunification and provided the Koreans with the idea for achieving national reunification at a historic time where a new millennium started.

The publication of the joint declaration made it possible for the north and the south to work together for national reunification and co-prosperity by putting an end to the long-standing antagonism and distrust to attain reconciliation and unity.

As part of national reconciliation and cooperation, severed railways and roads were reconnected and air and sea routes opened between the north and the south of Korea. Grand festivals for national reunification took place one after another in Pyongyang and Seoul, ushering in the June 15 era of reunification.

This great feat of Kim Jong Il will remain forever in the history of the nation.
