Koreans in Russia Criticize Japan's Claim to Tok Islets
Pyongyang, June 8 (KCNA) -- Koreans in Russia held a meeting in Moscow Wednesday to denounce Japan for its ambition to grab Tok Islets.

Present there were representatives of the United Confederation of Koreans in Russia, the All-Russia Federation of Koreans and other compatriots organizations and other Koreans and experts of the Russian Institute of History, the Institute of the Far East and the Institute of Oriental Studies under the Russian Academy of Sciences and other scientific research organs.

A keynote speech was followed by other speeches at the meeting.

The speakers asserted Tok Islets have belonged to Korea from the time immemorial.

A statement was issued there.

Japan is becoming evermore desperate in its moves to seize Tok Islets, the statement said, adding:

It is known well to everybody that the islets have been part of the inalienable territory of Korea since the olden times and there is no ground for Japan to insist that they belong to Japan. This issue was proved by many historical documents and international law and this is little short of a permanent confirmation.

However, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology of Japan declared in the revised school textbooks "dominium" over Tok Islets in the East Sea of Korea, the statement noted, and continued:

Japan marked the islets as "Takeshima" of Japan in its textbooks in a bid to give impression that the islets belong to Japan.

This touched off bitter anger among Koreans in Russia, it held, voicing strong opposition to Japan's ambition to grab the islets.
