China Terms U.S. Deployment of Its Forces in Asia-Pacific Anachronistic
Beijing, June 6 (KCNA) -- Liu Weimin, spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in a press conference on June 4 termed the U.S. increased military presence in Asia-Pacific anachronistic.

The U.S. secretary of Defense, recently announcing the plan to deploy 60 per cent of the U.S. combat warships in the Pacific, claimed this does not pose any threat to China, the spokesman noted, urging all sides to exert efforts for protecting and promoting peace, stability and development in the Asia-Pacific region.

Pointing out that Asia-Pacific is the region where the interests of China and the U.S. are concentrated and overlap, he expressed hope that the U.S. side would respect interests and concerns of China and all other sides, seek common security through cooperation with regional countries and build a more stable and prosperous Asia-Pacific region.
