Afforestation Progresses Apace in DPRK
Pyongyang, May 24 (KCNA) -- A brisk afforestation is under way in the DPRK.

The officials and working people in North Hamgyong Province planted 834,000 trees more than its plan for this year. The province set this year's plan for tree planting in a big way and let tree nurseries of the cities and counties give priority to the supply of saplings.

Orang, Myongchon and Kyonghung counties applied quality composts to tree nurseries and effectively conducted weeding, manuring and cultivation after sowing seeds in levees and ridges in good combination, thereby raising many saplings this year, too.

Hoeryong City, Musan County and other cities and counties spruced up tree nurseries to suit their specific conditions and put the sapling production on a scientific, industrial and intensive basis.

Yonsa and Onsong counties respectively created at least 700 hectares of Changsong larches while Chongjin City and Kyongwon and Hwadae counties planted needle-leaf trees and broadleaf trees such as poplar, three-leaf pines and acacias in appropriate combination.

Kim Chaek City and Puryong County planted trees in a qualitative manner and carried out manuring and cultivation in a tenacious way, remarkably increasing the rate of rooting.

The province is also pushing forward the creation of timber forests, groves of oil-producing trees, wild fruit forests and forests for raw materials for pulp and paper.
