Tongan Secondary School, Producer of Talented Artistes
Pyongyang, May 23 (KCNA) -- Pyongyang Tongan Secondary School has risen to fame in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea for training reserve vocalists.

Over the past nearly 30 years, the school has turned out a number of talented vocalists. Many of them won international concours prize and the February 16 Art Prize and starred in the revolutionary operas, "The Sea of Blood" and "The Flower Girl".

Among the school graduates are Ri Hyang Suk, a female soprano soloist, who was awarded the top prize at the 11th Giuseppe di Stefano International Vocal Concours and Paek Mi Yong who was renowned at the Maria Canilia International Vocal Music Concours held in Italy in October Juche 92 (2003).

Most of the graduates are active at well-known art troupes including the Mansudae Art Troupe and the Phibada Opera Troupe.

Ri In Hui, a section chief of the school, told KCNA:

"It is somewhat difficult for one with weak foundation to be a career artiste, though one has a high qualification.

We direct efforts to putting vocal education on a scientific basis in order to train the students to be promising vocalists.

Leader Kim Jong Il's celebrated work 'Theory of Musical Art' is instrumental to educating them.

The school has hundreds of enrollments."
