Banks of Pothong River Take on Fresh Looks
Pyongyang, May 21 (KCNA) -- The scenery of Pothong River in the capital city of Pyongyang has become more conspicuous, with the building of the Mansugyo Meat and Fish Shop in April this year.

Before Korea's liberation from the Japanese colonial rule, the huts-riddled Pothong River area was flooded in rainy seasons.

President Kim Il Sung initiated the Pothong River improvement project and broke the ground for it to signal the start of the nation's grand nature-remaking project on May 21, Juche 35 (1946).

Since then, the Pothong River area has begun its life.

The riverside was turned into a pleasure park and many streets and monumental edifices were built alongside it. They include Rakwon, Pulgun and Chollima streets, People's Palace of Culture, Pyongyang Indoor Stadium, Chongnyu Restaurant, Ice Rink and Changgwang Health Complex.

They are illustrative of Kim Il Sung's idea of believing in the people as in Heaven.

The riverside was face-lifted under the deep care of leader Kim Jong Il.

Mansudae Street, Pothonggang Shop, Pothonggang Department Store, Meat and Fish Shop in Pothongmun Street and Mansugyo Meat and Fish Shop, built in a peculiar style in recent years, go well in harmony with already-existing edifices on the banks of the river.

All of them are results of the efforts Kim Jong Il made for the wellbeing of the people all his life, as well as the dear respected Kim Jong Un's loving care for them.
