Haegum, Korea's Traditional Instrument
Pyongyang, May 14 (KCNA) -- Haegum, a traditional instrument of Korea, enjoys popularity at home and abroad.

Among the numbers of the Unhasu Orchestra performance given in Paris in March this year was a traditional instrumental duet of haegum (Korean four-string fiddle) and kayagum, which won high acclamation.

Haegum, simple in structure yet unique in timbre, became popular among the Koreans in the latter half of Ri Dynasty (1392-1910).

It was improved between the late 1960s and the early 1970s.

Its compass became wide with high, middle, low and lowest pitched sounds.

Developed haegum, clear, soft and gentle in timbre, is capable of giving any rendition.
