DPRK Develops Fish Farming
Pyongyang, May 8 (KCNA) -- Fish farming is gaining momentum in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea.

Hwang Song Il, department director of the Ministry of Fisheries, told KCNA:

All fish farms around the country have been updated to suit ecological conditions of different species of fishes.

The project for building a ring-shaped production system is nearing completion at the Yonggwang Youth Fish Farm.

The Sinhung Fish Farm finished digging a several-hundred-meter-long waterway to pump up water from reservoir to the farm.

Taedonggang, Kujang and Poman and many other fish farms built germ gathering ponds and worm habitats.

Successes have been made in putting fish breeding on a scientific and intensive basis.

Fishes are bred in layers to suit the species' physiological features, and water management and feeding are controlled by computers.

The fast-growing Ryongjong fish has been propagated throughout the country, while researches for breeding new species of fishes have made big strides.

Many minor and big hydraulic power stations have been built across the country in recent years, thus expanding natural water areas and artificial waterways to provide more favorable conditions for fish farming.
