Settlement of "Comfort Women" Issue Demanded in S. Korea, Japan
Pyongyang, May 8 (KCNA) -- Activists and researchers of civilian organizations in south Korea and Japan including the South Korean Council for the Solution of the Issue of the Volunteers' Corps held a seminar in Seoul on May 4 in denunciation of the war crimes committed by Japan.

Read out there was a joint statement demanding the Japanese government acknowledge its responsibility for the past crimes related to sexual slavery and make official apology and legal reparation for them.

The Museum of War and Women's Rights was built in Seoul, the statement said, adding:

South Koreans of different social standings have long struggled to see the settlement of the issue of "comfort women" and the UN and other international bodies urged Japan to make apology and reparation for the sexual slavery. Parliaments in the U.S. and other nations also came out with resolutions on demanding the recovery of the victims' rights.

The Japanese government, however, has shirked its responsibility for the crimes against humanity.

The pains suffered by the victims of the "comfort women" can no longer be overlooked.

The Japanese government should admit that the sexual slavery was perpetrated at its organized and systematic approval and take legitimate and administrative measures to make official apology and legal reparation to the victims.

The "government" of south Korea should demand clear and legal settlement of the issue of "comfort women", instead of calling for its humanitarian settlement.

We will fight it out to solve the issue of "comfort women" for the Imperial Japanese Army.
