Halt to Import of American Beef Urged by S. Korean Political Figure

Pyongyang, May 2 (KCNA) -- The chairman of the Policy Committee of the Democratic United Party of south Korea held a press conference on April 28 calling for a halt to the import of American beef, according to south Korean MBC.

He accused the "government" of talking about quarantine instead of stopping the import of American beef infected with mad cow disease.

Terming this an ineffective measure, he urged the authorities to take an immediate measure for halting the import.

If the authorities disregard the people's health, the above-said party would call for the amendment to the law on the import of American beef at the 19th "National Assembly," he warned.
