DPRK Experiences Heavy Rain, Accompanied by Stormy Wind, Tidal Waves
Pyongyang, April 23 (KCNA) -- Heavy rainfall hit overall parts of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea on April 21-22, triggered by low pressure that came from the sky above lower reaches of China's Changjiang River.

Hardest hit were South Hwanghae, Kangwon and South Hamgyong provinces and some areas of North Phyongan and North Hwanghae provinces.

Sinchon County witnessed 102 mm rainfall, Sepho County 92 mm, Munchon City 80 mm, Hoeyang County 79 mm, Chonnae and Kosong counties 78 mm respectively, Sudong District 74 mm and Rakwon County 72 mm.

Haeju City and Ryongyon County experienced strong wind 16 meters per second, Unryul and Singye counties 15 m/s, Jangyon County 14 m/s and most areas of South and North Hwanghae and Kangwon provinces 10 m/s.

Meanwhile, tidal waves swept some east coastal areas on Sunday, with water-level in the sea off Pochon-ri, Myongchon County, North Hamgyong Province rising 58 centimeters, in the sea off Thongchon County, Kangwon Province 52 centimeters and in the sea off Riwon County, South Hamgyong Province 36 centimeters.

Such phenomena are believed to be unusual in spring season in Korea.
