Kim Il Sung's Birth Anniversary Celebrated in DPRK
Pyongyang, April 14 (KCNA) -- The Democratic People's Republic of Korea is celebrating President Kim Il Sung's 100th birth anniversary (April 15), the Day of the Sun, as one of the greatest national holidays.

A ceremony of unveiling statues of the President and General Secretary Kim Jong Il on Mansu Hill was held with splendor on Friday.

The erection is the highest pride of Songun Korea.

Mosaics picturing smiling Kim Il Sung and Kim Jong Il were erected on Jangdae Hill in Pyongyang.

The Workers' Party of Korea Publishing House brought out "The Great Man", Vol. 5 of "Comrade Kim Il Sung, Peerlessly Great Man."

The book serves as an encyclopedia, which systemizes in an all-round way Kim Il Sung's greatness in ideology, leadership and virtues.

The government minted commemorative coins in honor of the centenary of the birth of Kim Il Sung and the State Stamp Bureau issued new stamps portraying his feats.

The celebrations include a national photo exhibition, state book exhibition, film show week, national fine art festival, state fine art exhibition, state industrial art exhibition and Songhwa fine art exhibition.

A gathering took place by workers and members of trade unions in front of the old home of Kim Il Sung in Mangyongdae, while colorful events and art performances were arranged in the run-up to the anniversary.

Conspicuous among them is the 14th Kimilsungia Festival now under way in Pyongyang. On display at the festival are more than 30 000 potted Kimilsungias presented by government-level agencies, servicepersons and civilians, overseas Koreans and foreigners.

Meanwhile, the 28th April Spring Friendship Art Festival is going on in Pyongyang in commemoration of the anniversary, participated in by foreign and overseas Korean artistes as well as artistes of the DPRK.
