National Memorial Service for Choe Hyon Held
Pyongyang, April 10 (KCNA) -- A national memorial service took place at the Central Youth Hall on Tuesday to mark the 30th death anniversary of Choe Hyon, a revolutionary fighter.

Choe Hyon joined the Anti-Japanese People's Guerrilla Army in July 1932 after serving in the Red Guards. He rendered distinguished service in the history of the anti-Japanese revolutionary struggle.

After the country's liberation, he worked heart and soul for the founding of the Workers' Party of Korea and the building of the regular armed forces. In the period of the Fatherland Liberation War, he performed a great contribution to the victory in the war.

In the postwar period, he devotedly worked to consolidate the unity and cohesion of the party, accelerate socialist construction and hasten the country's reunification, holding important posts of the party, the state and the army.

He dedicated himself to the sovereignty and independence of the country and the happiness of its people and to the victory of the cause of socialism, following the road of revolution true to the wise leadership of the party and the leader.

He died at the age of 74 on April 9, 1982.

Present there were Kim Yong Nam, Choe Ryong Hae, Ri Yong Ho and other senior party, state and army officials, officials of the party, armed forces and power bodies, social organizations, ministries and national institutions, servicepersons of the Korean People's Army and the Korean People's Internal Security Forces, labor innovators, bereaved families and working people in the city.

Minister of the People's Armed Forces KPA Vice Marshal Kim Jong Gak, alternate member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, said in his memorial address that Choe Hyon's whole life was a brilliant life of the Songun revolutionary fighter who devotedly defended the headquarters of the revolution with arms in the first line of the struggle, keeping in his mind the transparent revolutionary outlook on the leader. His life was also a worthwhile one of a genuine revolutionary who dedicated his all to the party and the revolution, the country and its people, he added.

He was a paragon of the revolutionary soldier possessed of the truest and most transparent view and stand on upholding President Kim Il Sung, the leader of the revolution, and general secretary Kim Jong Il, he noted.

The speaker called upon all the party members, servicepersons and people to carry forward the tradition of loyalty shown by the anti-Japanese revolutionary forerunners, become a fortress and shield devotedly protecting the dear respected Kim Jong Un and make a positive contribution to developing the country's economy and settling the issues concerning the people's living.
