Kim Il Sung Advances DFRK Founding Proposal for Korea's Reunification

Pyongyang, April 9 (KCNA) -- President Kim Il Sung performed great feats for Korea's reunification with his distinguished idea and leadership.

It was in October Juche 68 (1979) that the Yushin (Revitalizing Reforms) system came to a tragic end in south Korea, causing great disorder.

Under this situation, the President set forth the most reasonable and realistic proposal for national reunification and opened up a new phase of the nation-wide reunification movement.

Saying it was high time that the north and the south of Korea pooled their efforts to grope an effective way for its independent and peaceful reunification, he suggested that an editorial of DPRK's newspaper Rodong Sinmun be made public to call for independent reunification through collaboration and unity, not confrontation.

At the Sixth Congress of the Workers' Party of Korea, he advanced the proposal for founding the Democratic Federal Republic of Koryo (DFRK), stressing that the shortest and surest way for national reunification is to draw the north and the south together into a federal state, leaving the ideas and social systems existing in the north and the south as they are.

He attached top priority to identity of the homogenous Korean nation with history of 5 000 years, regarding it as a main factor for achieving reconciliation and unity between the north and the south with different ideas and social systems.

Then he energetically encouraged all Koreans to turn out in the nation-wide drive for carrying the proposal into practice.

In November 1980 the President saw to it that all the political parties and social organizations in the north held a joint conference to propose setting up a preparatory committee for founding the DFRK, a consultative organization common to the nation consisting of representatives of different social strata at home and abroad.

In August 1981 he advised that a joint statement of all the political parties and social organizations in the north should be announced to propose the convocation of a conference for promoting national reunification, which would be made up of representatives of the parties and organizations in the north and the south of Korea and representatives of overseas compatriots and jointly seek a way for founding a federal state.

He also recommended convening a 100-people joint conference grouping celebrated politicians in the north and the south and abroad in next February and having north-south high-level political and military talks as an immediate measure for Korea's peace and peaceful reunification in December 1986.

His wise leadership brought to naught the separatists' attempt for single channel in negotiations, flinging the door for dialogue between the north and the south wide open.

Encouraged by such measures, south Koreans of different social strata turned out in the movement for founding a federal state.
