S. Korean Paper Chides "Government" for Failing to Draw Lesson from "Cheonan" Tragedy
Pyongyang, March 28 (KCNA) -- The south Korean paper Hangyore Monday carried an editorial titled "Our society's incompetence--failure to draw a lesson from the 'Cheonan' tragedy."

Two years have passed since the "Cheonan" warship sinking case took place, but conflict and antagonism are going on over this issue in south Korean society, a proof of ideological and political deviations, the editorial said, and went on:

A specific expression of this was the refusal to confirm lawyer Jo Yong Hwan as a judge of the Constitutional Court.

Jo Yong Hwan said shortly ago: "It is not appropriate to use word 'conviction' in the results of the governments' investigation that claimed 'Cheonan' case was the deed of the north as I did not witness the case at the first hand."

Much upset by this, the "government", the ruling party and conservative media considered his remarks as disturbing ones, launching an ideological and political offensive against him which resulted in his failure to get confirmed.

There has never been a free discussion on the truth about the "Cheonan" case in our society.

There is no chance to have a proper discussion on truth in the light of the situation in which even Jo's statement is regarded as dangerous.

There is still such suspicion about the case that even former U.S. Ambassador in Seoul Donald Gregg distrusts the announcement of the "government".

No pressure can wrest conviction from people.

More tragic is such incompetence as to fail to draw a proper lesson from the said case.

Meanwhile, the south Korean internet paper Saram Ilbo in an article on the same day demanded a thorough probe into the truth of the case.
