Strong Earthquakes Hit Japan in Succession
Pyongyang, March 16 (KCNA) -- Strong earthquakes hit Japan in succession recently, throwing its population into serious unrest and horror.

6.8 magnitude quake jolted Tohoku region on Mar. 14.

Its epicenter was about 10 km deep in waters off Sanriku.

Tsunami 20 cm high was reportedly observed in some coastal areas the moment quake occurred.

The quake rocked the buildings in Hokkaido, Aomori and Iwate prefectures and other areas for dozens of seconds, causing many inhabitants to take emergency refuge.

The Japan Agency of Meteorology advised the inhabitants in all coastal areas of the above-said regions to swiftly come out of high-rise buildings and dwelling houses and evacuate to high places due to possible unabated aftershock.

Some hours later a quake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale occurred in the waters east of Chiba Prefecture.

The quake left fences in Chiba and Ibaraki prefectures destroyed and window panes of buildings broken.

A powerful shock was observed in the heart of Tokyo, too.

According to the above-said agency, these quakes are aftershocks of the mega quakes last year and aftershocks measuring more than 5 on the Richter scale are likely to continue in a week to come.
