Announcement on Upcoming Satellite Launch Delights Korean Scientists
Pyongyang, March 16 (KCNA) -- A spokesman for the Korean Committee for Space Technology (KCST) announced Friday that the DPRK would launch Kwangmyongsong-3, a polar-orbiting earth observation satellite, by carrier rocket Unha-3 between April 12 and 16 to mark the 100th birth anniversary of President Kim Il Sung.

This stirring news has delighted the employees of the State Academy of Sciences.

A researcher Ri Sun Chol told KCNA:

"I am very pleased to listen to the news. It makes me feel like embracing the whole of space.

I keenly realize that our science and technology have developed very much.

The forthcoming satellite launch will be an epoch-making event and it will once again display the inexhaustible scientific and technological potentials of the DPRK, which has already emerged a political and military power."

Choe Ung Chol, vice-director of the Central Experiment Analytical Institute, said:

"This happy news has fuelled my yearning for general secretary Kim Jong Il, who turned our country into a scientific and technological power.

The whole world will become convinced, through the upcoming satellite launch, of the Korean people's unshakable will to build a thriving country."

Jo Il Gwang, director of the Institute of Information on Global Environment, said:

"DPRK scientists and technicians already launched two experimental satellites in line with the government's policy for space development and its peaceful use.

The DPRK will continue to display its dignity and honor as a country capable of manufacturing and launching satellites."
