Great Men's Feats for Korean Women's Movement in Japan
Pyongyang, March 8 (KCNA) -- Today, International Women's Day, the Korean women recall the exploits President Kim Il Sung and General Secretary Kim Jong Il, peerlessly great persons, performed for the women's movement, especially the movement of Korean women in Japan

After the liberation of Korea from the Japanese imperialists' colonial rule, President Kim Il Sung showed deep care for the Korean women's movement in Japan.

He authored famous works, including "On Some Tasks Facing the Korean Democratic Women's Union in Japan", to show the road for the Korean women in Japan to follow, and frequently encouraged them in the patriotic drive, highly appreciating their achievements.

In November Juche 66 (1977) the President met a home-visiting delegation of Japan-resident Korean women to encourage them to rally all other Korean women of different social strata.

True to his lofty intention, leader Kim Jong Il paid deep concern to the work of the Korean Democratic Women's Union in Japan.

Even in the period of the arduous march, the forced march, the leader indicated ways for the Union to enhance its role in propelling the patriotic cause of the General Association of Korean Residents in Japan (Chongryon).

The wise leadership of the President and the leader brought about a remarkable progress in the movement of Japan-resident Korean women.

The Union's basic organizations, including chapters and branches, were strengthened to conduct diverse activities in various fields.

Progress was also made in preserving the national character.

The Korean women in Japan have maintained good traditional manners and customs in their daily life.

Their efforts to preserve the national identity are made in artistic field, too.

Typical of examples to show such efforts is a music and dance performance an art troupe of Koreans in Japan gave in Pyongyang in February last to commemorate the Day of the Shining Star, the birth anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il.

In this performance Kim Yu Ri, an actress of the Kumgang-san Opera Troupe of Chongryon, won acclamation with her dance "Traditional Korean Jacket and Skirt", which represents the Korean women in Japan defending their nationality from the Japanese reactionaries' suppression.
