Japanese Authorities' Insult to "Comfort Women" Denounced
Pyongyang, March 8 (KCNA) -- The Council for the Solution to the Issue of the Volunteers' Corps made public a statement on March 5 to denounce the Japanese authorities for insulting the victims of the sexual slavery for the imperial Japanese army.

The statement said the Japanese ambassador in Seoul met some victims of the sexual slavery, citing the work of "people's funds".

The Japanese authorities established the "people's funds" to downgrade the level of the reparation from the government level to the non-governmental one as part of their moves to gloss over the responsibility for Japan's past crimes, it said.

It noted they could hardly repress the surging anger and resentment at the Japanese authorities who met the victims in camera under the guise of "people's funds" the true colors of which were already disclosed.

This is an insult to and mockery of the victims. What they want is not a few pennies of money but Japan's admittance of the sexual slavery in the past and apology and reparation by the Japanese authorities, the statement said, and went on:

Nevertheless, the Japanese authorities claimed that they have taken the aid step through the "people's funds", touching off the public anger.

The Japanese authorities should not wrap the issue of apology and reparation for the past crimes with the cloth of humanitarianism but make efforts to fulfill their legal responsibility.
