S. Korean Organization Accuses Authorities of Pushing for Navy Base Construction
Pyongyang, March 2 (KCNA) -- The measure council for checking the construction of Jeju naval base in south Korea condemned the "government" authorities for pressing for the construction. The organization held a press conference on February 29.

Recalling the stand clarified by the "Prime Minister's office" to push forward the construction, the speakers said the office cites the protection of the waters off the southern area as a reason for the construction but clear is the authorities' stand to bring U.S. warships to the area, given the U.S. dispatch of its naval forces to the area.

This has brought to light the hypocrisy of the earlier claim by the authorities that it would be possible for civilian ships to use the base.

The violent suppression of people opposing the base construction linking them with the north is a mockery of the people, they said.

They vowed not to stop fighting even though they may be arrested while fighting for Jeju Island.

They urged the authorities to immediately stop the construction.

At the end of the conference the organization thrust a written protest to the "Prime Minister's office".
