DPRK Marks Anniversary of Theses on Socialist Rural Question
Pyongyang, February 25 (KCNA) -- Today marks the 48th anniversary of "The Theses on the Socialist Rural Question in Our Country", a famous work of President Kim Il Sung.

The work elucidates ideas and theories on narrowing down the distinction between towns and the countryside and between the working class and the peasantry. They include ideas and theories on the three revolutions in the countryside, strengthening the state support to rural areas and the state guidance over the rural economy and gradually turning cooperative ownership into public ownership.

In order to perfectly work out the Theses Kim Il Sung toured tens of farms in Pyongyang and various provinces of the country in 1963.

One day in November that year, he learned about the management of a farm in South Phyongan Province and about cash income of its farmers.

He told the officials of the farm that he would soon send a bus to the farm to bring the chief of the party organization and work-team leaders of the farm to Pyongyang for discussion of its management.

Arriving in Pyongyang, they attended a meeting convened by the President, together with officials of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea and national institutions.

At the meeting the President acquainted himself with the farm's grain production and distribution and other management affairs before indicating ways to improve its economic life.

He underlined the need to decisively strengthen the state support to the countryside.

Few months after the meeting the Theses came into being in February 1964 as guidelines for a complete settlement of the rural question.
