Koreans in Japan Commemorate Kim Jong Il's Birth Anniversary
Pyongyang, February 16 (KCNA) -- A meeting of Koreans in Japan took place in Tokyo Wednesday to commemorate the 70th birth anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il.

Present at the meeting were Nam Sung U and Ko Tok U, vice-chairmen of the Central Standing Committee of the General Association of Koreans in Japan (Chongryon), Pae Jin Gu, its vice-chairman and secretary general, Hong In Hum, chairman of the Central Audit Committee of Chongryon, and other Chongryon officials and compatriots and teachers and students of Joson University.

All the participants observed a moment's silence in memory of Kim Jong Il.

Nam Sung U in his report praised Kim Jong Il as a prominent thinker and theoretician, a rare political elder and unrivalled Songun brilliant commander, peerless patriot and benevolent father of the people unprecedented in history.

Kim Jong Il's nearly 70 year-long life was an immensely noble one as he performed undying exploits on behalf of the era and mankind, undergoing all sorts of sufferings as a man and leader, Nam Sung U said, and went on:

Kim Jong Il was the outstanding leader of Chongryon and benevolent father and teacher who gave happiness to the Koreans in Japan and carved out a rosy future for their younger generation.

The patriotic cause of Chongryon is sure to triumph as the dear respected Kim Jong Un who is identical to Kim Jong Il clearly indicates the road to be followed by Chongryon and there is the prospering homeland.

A letter to Kim Jong Un from the Chongryon Central Standing Committee was adopted at the meeting.

Meanwhile, a Chongryon central photo exhibition commemorating the 70th birth anniversary of Kim Jong Il took place in Tokyo on the same day.
