Ice Sculpture Festival Goes on in DPRK
Pyongyang, February 14 (KCNA) -- An ice sculpture festival for commemorating the birth anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il is now under way in Samjiyon County, Ryanggang Province of the country, on Sunday.

More than 1 000 ice sculptures are on display in the area of the Paektusan secret camp and the county seat. They were created by members of the Ministry of People's Security group under the 618 Construction Shock Brigade and inhabitants of the county.

Among the sculptures in the area of the Paektusan secret camp are those depicting large floral basket, celebrating lantern, and the Korean people in bitter grief at the loss of the father of the nation, which vividly show the kinship between the leader and his people.

There are also a green pine on Nam Hill and two pistols reflecting the faith and will of the army and people to surely accomplish the revolutionary cause of Juche started in Mt. Paektu, the Marshal star on the Supreme Commander's flag and a tiger of Mt. Paektu.

The visitors are moved to see ice sculptures representing the Tower of the Juche Idea, the Party Founding Memorial Tower, the Arch of Triumph, the Three Charters for National Reunification Memorial Tower, falls of vinalon being churned out, Juche iron, Ryongrim Dam at the Huichon Power Station, etc.

Among those displayed in the Samjiyon County seat are sculptures depicting the Paektu plateau turned into potato-producing land, reminding the visitors of the history of devoted services of leader Kim Jong Il. There are also ice bridges, animals, plants and basin of chars.

Various kinds of flood-light projectors were introduced for maximum effect of those exhibits, thus adding to the festive mood.
