Present there were organizations of civic and public, religious and all other circles and lawmakers from the United Progressive Party and other opposition parties.

A written proposal for social agreement for south-north relations of reconciliation and peace in 2012 was adopted at the meeting in the name of the said South Side Committee.

It said that in order to restore the south-north relations it is necessary to defuse the political and military confrontation to achieve national reconciliation, prevent military conflicts to ensure peace and promote the interests and prosperity common to the nation through multi-faceted cooperation and exchange.

The "government" should positively ensure non-governmental cooperation and exchange as an important element for the development of south-north relations as they should not be stopped under any circumstances, it held, urging the "National Assembly" to let the people know about the unreasonableness of the "May 24 step" and commit itself to lift it as its validity was lost, it bars the inter-Korean cooperation and exchange and brings only sufferings to them.

The events common to the nation marking the anniversaries of the publication of the joint declarations will show whether they are implemented or not and in case they take place, they will lead to substantial dialogue for bringing back south-north relations of reconciliation, peace and prosperity, it said.

For this social agreement all circles will have dialogue with those concerned of all organizations, political parties and the authorities, it emphasized.

Lawmakers from opposition parties and officials of all strata including the religious circle made speeches in support of the proposal for social agreement.

The participants in the meeting signed a large suspension poster bearing the proposal, holding in their hands literature titled "Ensure non-governmental exchange", "Lift of May 24 step", "Resume tour of Mt. Kumgang" and "Ensure south-north joint events".
