Kim Jong Il Prize Instituted
Pyongyang, February 4 (KCNA) -- The DPRK instituted Kim Jong Il Prize on the 70th birth anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il.

The Presidium of the DPRK Supreme People's Assembly on Friday promulgated a decree on it.

The prize will be conferred on officials and those that have made tangible contribution to the development of science, education, public health, literature and arts, media and sports through a vigorous drive to translate leader Kim Jong Il's noble desires into reality.

Kim Jong Il Prize is the top prize in the DPRK as well as Kim Il Sung Prize.

The gold medal of this prize has a shape of dodecagon 39 mm in diameter. It has shining golden rays symbolic of the Juche idea engraved and on its center there are a circle 24mm in inside diameter and 28mm in outer diameter and the portrait of smiling Kim Jong Il in it.

Marked on the lower part of the circle are laurels symbolic of victory and glory and on its upper part are fruits, each 0.8 mm in diameter, symbolic of the successes achieved in building a thriving nation under the wise leadership of Kim Jong Il.

The medal is connected to a metal plate 27 mm in width and 11 mm in length by a gold ring and its total length is 65 mm.

On the backside of the medal are letters reading "Gold medal of Kim Jong Il Prize" and there is a pin on the back of its metal plate.
