1st Conference of Communist Party of Cuba Held
Havana, January 31 (KCNA) -- The First Conference of the Communist Party of Cuba was held in Havana from Jan. 28 to 29.

Present there were more than 800 delegates.

The conference dealt with such matters as strengthening the party work, improving the work style of officials and ensuring close relations between the party and the masses.

Speaking at the conference, Raul Castro, first secretary of the C.C., CPC, said the experience gained in the struggle for independence and sovereignty shows that it is necessary to maintain the one-party system. Abandoning it is as good as giving up the Cuban people's strategic weapon of unity, he added.

He called upon the party organizations to mobilize the party members and people in a drive to implement the party's decisions.

A decision on the targets of the party work was adopted at the conference.
