New Strains of Apple, Pear Bred
Pyongyang, January 31 (KCNA) -- The Pomology Research Institute of the DPRK has bred new strains of apple and pear.

Ri Thae Nam, chief of the research institute, told KCNA that they succeeded in acclimatizing high-yielding strains of apple and pear saplings to the climatic and soil conditions of the country after making an analysis of their ecological peculiarities.

The new strain of apple with sour and delicious taste and sweet smell is 14 percent in sugar content and 0.35 percent in acid content. It is full of juice.

The apple tree, higher than other strains in productivity, bears fruits one year after planting and tens of tonnes can be harvested in each hectare from after four years.

The new strain of pear, full of juice, bears big fruits, each weighing 350- 360 grams and 600 grams to the maximum.

The pear is sweet, refreshing and colory.

The pear tree begins to bear fruits one year after planting. It bears more fruits than other strains from after three years.

The new strains of apple and pear will be planted in Kosan, Ryongjon and some other fruit farms from this year.
