Centenary of Birth of People's Artiste Hwang Chol Observed in DPRK
Pyongyang, January 11 (KCNA) -- The centenary of birth of People's Artiste Hwang Chol was commemorated in the DPRK.

Hwang took part in the historic April Joint Conference of Representatives of Political Parties and Public Organizations in North and South Korea just after the liberation of the country, at the call of President Kim Il Sung.

The President gave in to Hwang's ardent wish to create dramatic arts in the northern half of Korea.

Hwang directed and played leading part in such artistic works as dramas "Admiral Ri Sun Sin" and "The Family of Choe Hak Sin" and feature film "The Tale of Chun Hyang".

He trained many talented actors and actresses and authored papers including "Stage Narration" and "Theory of Makeup" and a large number of critiques, notes and essays.

He won high appreciation in international arena for his successful puppetry scenario.

He worked as a deputy to the Supreme People's Assembly, president of the National Theatre, vice-minister of Education and Culture, etc.

A meeting of remembering him took place at the National Theatre on Wednesday.

Ri Ji Yong, chairman of the C.C., the Dramatic Artistes Union of Korea, addressing the meeting said that Hwang Chol is still alive as the first People's Artiste in the DPRK and winner of the National Reunification Prize under the loving care of the peerlessly great men who added shine to the life of the revolutionary soldier and showed deep benevolence for him.

Attending the meeting were Minister of Culture An Tong Chun, officials, creators and artistes in the field of culture and art, teachers and students in the field of art education and Hwang's bereaved family and related persons.
