Nigeria Strives for Social Stability
Pyongyang, January 11 (KCNA) -- The Nigerian government has recently directed big efforts to ensuring social stability in the country while frustrating the moves of extremists and the U.S. interference.

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan in his New Year address on Jan. 1 set it as a major task for 2012 to protect the life and property of the people and develop the country.

The government is taking steps to foil any domestic and foreign machinations and ensure national security and social stability by concerted efforts.

The government will strengthen the security system to cope with terrorism in an effective way, the president said, calling on all the people to join in the combat against terrorism.

On Dec. 31 last year Nigeria declared emergency situation to some northern areas of the country with an aim to check criminal deeds of the extremists.

The meeting of heads of religious and security organs held in Gombe State on Friday discussed the issue of taking all possible measures to prevent victims caused by terrorism.

All state governments are protecting people's life and property as well as supplying medicines and other living conditions to victims of terrorism in a responsible manner.

The international community has expressed support and solidarity with the Nigerian government and people in their efforts to achieve social stability.
