Railway Freight Traffic on Increase
Pyongyang, January 6 (KCNA) -- The DPRK has witnessed an increase in railway freight traffic from the beginning of the new year.

According to data available at the Ministry of Railways, a daily average of railway freight turnover was 5 percent higher than the plan over the past three days.

Coal and raw materials for light industry factories take a great share of the freight.

Railway bureaus across the country have organized concentrated transport to carry raw materials to vanguard economic sectors and basic industrial sectors.

The timely cargo transport helps boost production in many industrial establishments.

The ministry's chief of staff, Im Chol Ung, told KCNA:

"All officials of the ministry are turning out in the effort for carrying out the tasks set forth in the decision of the Political Bureau of the Worker's Party of Korea (WPK) Central Committee, joint calls of the WPK Central Committee and the Central Military Commission and the joint New Year editorial.

We will direct much effort to renewing the country's railroads as early as possible and raise the transport capacity so as to meet the growing demand for transport. So we will make a contribution to opening up the gate to a thriving nation."
