Meeting of Sports Persons Held

Pyongyang, January 5 (KCNA) -- A meeting of officials in the field of sports and sportsmen was held here on Thursday to vow to implement the decision of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Workers' Party of Korea, the joint calls of the Central Committee and the Central Military Commission of the WPK and the militant tasks set forth in the joint new year editorial and respond to the letter of working people in South Hamgyong Province.

Minister of Physical Culture and Sports Pak Myong Chol made a report to be followed by speeches.

They recalled that leader Kim Jong Il personally watched an opening game at the Sports Complex of the Korean People's Army, a synchronized swimming event and a demonstration performance by figure skaters, though he was busy leading last year's grand revolutionary march towards 2012 and gave precious teachings for the development of the nation's sports.

The officials and sportspersons pledged themselves to glorify the DPRK as a famous football power and sports power, remaining true to the leadership of the dear respected Kim Jong Un at the behest of Kim Jong Il.

They evinced determination to dash ahead in the Paektu spirit of offensive and bring about a landmark phase in the development of sports, bearing deep in mind the great honor of holding Kim Jong Un in high esteem as the supreme commander of the KPA.

They stressed they would make the flames of Hamnam and the Paektu hot wind of training flare up fiercely and thus remarkably raise the physical and technical abilities and create new technique and playing methods of Korean style that help beat any strong rivals.

Attending the meeting were Choe Ryong Hae, secretary of the C.C., the WPK, officials concerned and officials and sportspersons in the field of sports.
