Tribute Paid to Portraits of Smiling Kim Jong Il on New Year
Pyongyang, January 1 (KCNA) -- Servicepersons and people from all walks of life paid respects to the portraits of smiling Kim Jong Il on the New Year.

Floral baskets and flowers were laid before his portraits set up in major places in the capital including Kim Il Sung Square and the plaza of the Pyongyang Indoor Stadium.

Visitors included servicepersons, working people of different circles and school youth and students in Pyongyang.

Placed before the portraits were floral baskets in the name of party, armed forces and power bodies, public organizations, ministries, national institutions, units of the Korean People's Army and the Korean People's Internal Security Forces and institutions at all levels, enterprises, factories, farms and schools in Pyongyang, and flowers.

The masses bowed to the portraits in humble reverence.

Servicepersons and people of all social standings laid floral baskets and flowers before the portraits in provincial seats.

Overseas Koreans staying in the socialist homeland and foreigners paid tribute to the portraits display in the capital and other parts of the country.

Staff members of the consulates general of China and Russia in Chongjin City visited the portrait in the city on the New Year to pay floral tribute. Chinese residing in the city also laid a floral basket before the portrait.
