Young Koreans Brace Themselves Up in Mourning Days

Pyongyang, December 28 (KCNA) -- The young Korean people, stricken with grief at the demise of leader Kim Jong Il, are resolved to convert their sorrow into strength and courage and unfailingly materialize his plan for building a thriving nation.

According to data available, about 400,000 young men and women had joined in shock-brigade activities in major economic sectors and distinguished themselves in production and construction in seven days since the news of his passing away was reported on December 19. During the days, nearly 800,000 young people volunteered to do difficult and toilsome jobs.

Some 80,000 young people in the light industrial sector have fulfilled their daily quotas at 139 percent on an average, while more than 267,000 young peasants turned out some 843 800 tons of compost in a few days.

Meanwhile, some 2,000 young workers in power stations have made a big contribution to boosting electric power output through collective innovations.

More than 32,000 young coal miners produced 157,000 tons of coal as of Monday.

Young railway workers, including nearly 500 at the Kim Jong Thae Electric Locomotive Complex, finished repairing some 150 locomotives and 260 passenger and freight cars.

Such achievements have also been reported from the construction of the Mt. Paektu Songun Youth Power Station and northern railway reconstruction.
