Condolatory Messages from Nigerian President

Pyongyang, December 26 (KCNA) -- Kim Jong Un, vice-chairman of the Central Military Commission of the Workers' Party of Korea, received a message of condolences from Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, president of Nigeria, on Dec. 22.

The message said:

Permit me to commiserate with you, firstly as the son of an illustrious flag bearer. You also have the onerous responsibility of being his Great successor.

In this respect, I wish to convey, on behalf of myself, the Government and people of Nigeria, heartfelt condolences to you, the government and people of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea. Our dear friend departed at a time when he had invested heavily in the cause of peace as evident in his efforts to resume the six-party talks.

Respected Comrade Kim Jong Il also spent the last days of his life in the search for prosperity and economic wellbeing of his people. The regular visits to China and the recent understanding he reached with his Russian counterpart are living testimonies of his untiring efforts.

Your illustrious predecessor has succeeded in building a special relationship with me and Nigeria, for which I am indeed very grateful. May I take this opportunity to assure you of the continued friendship, support and assistance of the Federal Government of Nigeria in the effort to build on the achievements of our dear friend, respected General Kim Jong Il.

May his gentle soul rest in peace.
