Pyongyang, December 26 (KCNA) -- The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Syria issued a statement on Dec. 21 on the demise of leader Kim Jong Il.

The statement, expressing the deepest condolences to the close Korean people, manifested conviction that Kim Jong Il's cause would be steadily carried forward by Comrade Kim Jong Un as desired by the world progressive people.

It said that Kim Jong Il conducted energetic external activities for the victory of the socialist cause and peace and stability in the world and the development of friendship among the peoples of the world, making undying contributions to the accomplishment of the human cause of independence.

The Syrian people feel grateful to Kim Jong Il for extending support to their just cause, it noted.
