Pyongyang, December 24 (KCNA) -- The army and people of the DPRK mark December 24 this year weeping bitterly in the biggest sorrow at the untimely loss of leader Kim Jong Il.

All the army and people have worked hard to significantly celebrate the 20th anniversary of leader Kim Jong Il's assumption of supreme commandership of the Korean People's Army. Today they are looking back on his Songun revolutionary exploits in bitter tears.

It was a signal event in the nation's history that Kim Jong Il assumed the top post of the revolutionary armed forces of the DPRK.

Since he assumed the heavy responsibility as supreme commander of the Korean People's Army Kim Jong Il had performed the Songun revolutionary exploits to shine long, standing all tempests of the revolution.

With his distinguished political ability and invincible Songun revolutionary leadership he made immortal contributions to the country, nation, revolution and the cause of independence.

In the mid-1990s when the Korean revolution faced the worst trials and adversities, Kim Jong Il formulated Songun politics as the basic political mode under socialism, thus setting up a fresh landmark for the development of the country and the revolution.

He led the country and the revolution with his original Songun political mode, which represents the organic combination of politics and military affairs, thereby enabling the DPRK's revolutionary armed forces to become strong revolutionary army of Mt. Paektu and helping the DPRK shed its rays as an invincible power winning victory after victory in reliance on the powerful political and military capabilities. The DPRK has become the most powerful socialist country strong in independent faith no formidable enemy dares provoke.

No political and diplomatic pressure, military blackmails, blockade and sanctions by the imperialists have ever worked on the DPRK.

Under the leadership of Kim Jong Il the Korean people have wrought the world-startling miracles in every domain including economy, culture, science and technology, resolutely smashing the vicious anti-DPRK confrontation and war moves by the reactionaries of history.

All the army and people have achieved the single-minded unity and built power enough to mount merciless military strike at the enemy while hardening their pledges to devotedly defend the headquarters of the revolution.

The work of turning the revolutionary ranks into elite forces with the KPA as a core has been pushed forward and the great army- people unity has been achieved on the basis of the army's mentality and its fighting spirit.
