Privatization of Education Field Protested in S. Korea

Pyongyang, December 17 (KCNA) -- The Government Employees' Union and the University Trade Union in south Korea held a press conference outside the Ministry of the Education Science and Technology on Dec. 14 in protest against the puppet group's moves to privatize the education field.

The puppet authorities are making desperate efforts to privatize state and public universities under the pretext of restructuring.

In September the ministry set out to the restructuring of several universities including Kunsan and Kang-Weon universities despite broad public protest.

They seek to mend the regulations on accounting so as to retract all the measures that had been taken to address the financial shortage of state universities.

They even try to abolish the system that had been set up thanks to the past struggle for campus democracy.

At the conference speakers termed the authorities' university restructuring a shameless act to put universities under their control.

It is the only way out for universities to force the present regime, which pursues wrong education policy, to step down, they said, declaring they would actively fight against the authorities.
