DPRK Proves Successful in International Tournaments

Pyongyang, December 12 (KCNA) -- DPRK sportspersons have scored good results in international tournaments this year.

Ro Un Ok and Kim Kum Ok, DPRK girls, took the first place in the IAAF-24th Mangyongdae Prize Marathon held in Pyongyang in April and the marathon of the 5th World Military Games respectively.

The DPRK boys were qualified for the 2012 Asian U-16 and U-19 football championships and girls for the 2012 Olympic Games and for the 2012 U-20 Women's World Cup.

The country bagged 4 trophies, 19 gold medals, 3 silver medals and 3 bronze medals to finish first in the team standings in the 17th ITF World Taekwon-Do Championship, which took place in Pyongyang.

Kim Un Guk won a gold medal in the 2011 World Weightlifting Championship and Yun Won Chol and Kim Ran Mi gained good results in the 2011 World Wrestling Championship to win tickets for the 2012 Olympic Games.

Yang Kyong Il and Yang Chun Song placed first in the men's freestyle event of the 2011 Asian Wrestling Championship.

DPRK girls won the 25m sports pistol and 25m rapid-fire pistol team events of the 5th World Military Games.

The DPRK also proved successful in the 2011 Asian Cup Women's Boxing

Tournament, international invitation track-and-field tournament held in Taipei of China, 2011 International Aero Model Contest for Mongolia Cup, 26th World Universiad and 25th Pyongyang International Invitational Table Tennis Tournament.
