South-South Cooperation among Developing Countries Called for: Rodong Sinmun

Pyongyang, December 4 (KCNA) -- To stand against sanctions imposed by imperialists from every angle presents itself as an important issue for independent countries against imperialism.

Rodong Sinmun Sunday says this in a bylined article.

Those countries which broke through the imperialists' siege and sanctions did not fall victim to the wars of aggression but those countries which failed to do so fell prey to them without an exception, the article notes, and goes on:

Confrontation with them means political, military and economic standoff and do-or-die struggle.

In order to win victory in this standoff it is important to have strong political and military muscle as well as economic might.

Strong economy guarantees political and military power and ensures a victory in the confrontation with the imperialists. Weak economy makes it impossible to hold fast to independent stand in the political standoff, forcing those countries to face a miserable plight, subject to humiliation by the imperialists' isolation and sanctions.

Countries aspiring after independence against imperialism have to build self-supporting national economy in order to frustrate imperialists' moves to isolate and stifle them and impose sanctions on them.

Only self-supporting national economy will help overcome difficulties by one's own efforts and technology, remaining unperturbed by the imperialists' sanctions.

South-south cooperation is the best way for the developing countries to pool efforts. They can successfully foil the imperialists' sanctions when they develop economy by filling each other's economic need on the principle of collective self-reliance.

Recently the economy of developing countries has outpaced developed ones. Bygone are the times when the imperialists boasted of their military strength and economic and technical advantages.
