Judges Protest GNP's Passage of FTA in S. Korea

Pyongyang, December 3 (KCNA) -- Judges in south Korea turned out in a group protest against the "Grand National Party" which railroaded the "motion calling for ratification of the Free Trade Agreement" with the U.S., according to CBS of south Korea.

A senior judge of the Inchon District Court posted on its Internet homepage on Dec. 1 an article condemning the FTA as an unequal agreement violating judicial sovereignty.

In case of a trade conflict with the U.S., south Korea may be deprived of its jurisdiction, the article said, stressing the need for the judicial authority to perform its part.

He said he would request the chief justice of the Supreme Court to set up a body of experts for renegotiations on the FTA.

More than one hundred judges expressed support for his stand in the first day when the article was posted.

The influence of their massive protest is expanding, the broadcasting service reported.
