Natural Disasters in Different Countries

Pyongyang, December 2 (KCNA) -- Authorities are assisting over 66,000 people displaced in a spate of storms that hit Sri Lanka's southern coastline and repairing 1,000km of power cables damaged, officials said on Tuesday.

Strong storms battered four districts in the island nation for four days last week killing 22 people, said Pradeep Kodippili, assistant director of the Disaster Management Center.

Over 40 people are reported to be missing and feared dead as storms racked the coastal belt towards the southern part of the country.

The government continues to take relief measures.

Storms also hit Sweden on November 28, cutting electricity supply to 80,000 residents and forcing the airline service to come offline.

The northern region of New South Wales State, Australia suffered flood damage by the recent days of heavy rains.

Roads, bridges and other major substructures were destroyed.

The government included the region in the list of disaster-stricken regions on November 29.
