100th Birthday of Famous Dancer of Korea Celebrated

Pyongyang, November 25 (KCNA) -- A joint meeting of dancers took place at Pyongyang Circus Theater on Nov. 25 on the centenary of birth of dancer Choe Sung Hui.

Present there were An Tong Chun, minister of Culture, Kim Pyong Hun, chairman of the Central Committee of the General Federation of the Unions of Art and Literature of Korea, officials, creators, artistes of field of dancing art. Family members of Choe, the delegation of Korean dancers in Japan headed by Im Su Hyang, department director of the Union of Korean Writers and Artistes in Japan, and overseas Korean artistes.

Ryang Chang Nam, chairman of the Central Committee of the Dancers Union of Korea, made a speech.

The speaker said that Choe had been famed worldwide as a talented dancer under the care of the great teacher.

Choe enjoyed a worthy life and is alive thanks to the boundless fatherly care of President Kim Il Sung and leader Kim Jong Il, he noted.

The speech was followed by the performance of typical dance pieces created by Choe "Cowboy and maiden", "Janggu dance", "dance of fan" and "Jaenggang dance".

The participants danced to the tune of music "Onghyeya" and "Hullari" with the mind to further develop the national dance art with the concerted efforts of the nation.
