100th Birth Anniversary of Dancer Choe Sung Hui Commemorated in DPRK

Pyongyang, November 24 (KCNA) -- The 100th birth anniversary of dancer Choe Sung Hui was commemorated in the DPRK.

Choe, born in Seoul on Nov. 24 1911, was a distinguished dance director, dance theorist and educator who won a worldwide fame for presenting a wonderful Korean dance and performed laudable feats in history of the Korean and world dances.

She assumed the first chairwoman of the Central Committee of the Dancers Union of Korea, the principal of Dance School and the director of the State Dance Theater.

A book releasing ceremony and seminar took place at the People's Palace of Culture on Thursday to commemorate her 100th birthday.

The book "Dancer Alive under the Care of the Sun" was released with due ceremony.

The book tells stories how Choe Sung Hui became a celebrated dancer under the care of the great teacher.

The seminar heard of how Choe glorified her life as a true dancer and laid a foundation for national dance as well as her dance creation and features.

Then followed a demonstration presentation of basic Korean dance created by Choe.

A wreath was placed at her graveyard in the Patriotic Martyrs Cemetery in Sinmi-ri on the outskirts of Pyongyang on the same day.
