Rodong Sinmun Demands Japan's Settlement of Past

Pyongyang, November 24 (KCNA) -- The Korean people will surely get thousand-fold price for the indelible crimes committed against the Korean nation by the Japanese imperialists, their sworn enemy, if Japan persists in its anachronistic hostile policy toward the DPRK, far from repenting of its wrongdoings.

Rodong Sinmun Thursday declares this stand in a bylined article.

The Japanese imperialists' moves to obliterate the Korean nation were the most brigandish state terrorism and crime against humanity to violate the Koreans' consciousness of national independence and reduce Korea into a part of Japan, the article says, and goes on:

From the outset of their occupation of Korea they set it as a state policy to enslave its people and obliterate their national identity and mobilized all the ruling machineries to implement it.

They made persistent efforts to wipe out the history of Korea under such specious pretext of preserving historical spots and relics, treasures, scenic spots and natural monuments.

They burnt more than 200 000 precious books containing classics of Korea and records of its history, branding them as "seditious books".

They even cooked up and distributed the distorted "History of Korea", in which the history of Tangun's Korea was deleted, in a bid to erase the time-honored history of the Korean nation.

They took legal and administrative steps to adopt Japanese as mother tongue for a Korean and force the Korean people to use it.

They also tried to deprive the Koreans of their full names in the plea of changing their names to Japanese fashion.

Asserting on the basis of the theory of divination that with all famous Korean mountains deprived of soul, a great person would no longer appear from among the Korean people, the Japanese imperialists committed such unheard-of deeds as driving iron stakes in major mountains and scenic spots of Korea.

Their atrocity and viciousness reached the extremes in massacres of Koreans. At least one million people were brutally killed during the Japanese imperialists' occupation of Korea.

Japan should settle its crime-woven past at an early date.
