O Yong Jae, Celebrated Korean Poet

Pyongyang, November 23 (KCNA) -- Among the famous poets of Korea was O Yong Jae (November 1935-October 2011), a winner of Kim Il Sung Prize and the title of Labor Hero.

Born in the south of Korea, he joined in the volunteers' army in the period of the Fatherland Liberation War (June 1950-July 1953).

Discharged from the military service, he studied literature for two years. During his long career as a poet, he wrote many works, contributing to enriching the treasure house of the Juche-based literature and arts.

He created a lot of hymns praising President Kim Il Sung and the Workers' Party of Korea.

His poem "The Only One in the World" gives a vivid representation of the DPRK where the leader, party and people are in perfect harmony. Another poem "Avenger's Declaration" reflects the Korean people's sufferings from national division, desire for the country's reunification and denunciation of the U.S. imperialists.

He also wrote words of songs, including "The People Offer Glory to the Party", "Loving Smile", "The Native Home Clad with Snow", "The Sound of a Horse's Hooves in Mt. Paektu" and "General's Family."

"General's Family" is a theme song of the multi-part feature film "The Nation and Destiny".

He created more than 1 000 works in his lifetime.
