Brazil Presses U.S. Energy Company to Explain about Oil Spill

Pyongyang, November 23 (KCNA) -- Brazilian officials Friday urged the U.S. energy giant Chevron to explain about the conflicting amount of oil spilled by an offshore well operated by the company.

They said that about 65 barrels of oil were leaked from the well near the Frade field, which is located about 370 km from the northeastern coast of Brazil.

"It's really serious and we don't yet know all the consequences," they said.

However, recent satellite images revealed a much larger spill, about ten times the volume announced by the company, they said, stressing that the Brazilian government will demand the U.S. pay compensation for damage due to oil spill.
