Attempt to Railroad FTA Protested in S. Korea

Pyongyang, November 22 (KCNA) -- A candlelight rally was held in the plaza of the Seoul City Office on November 19 to oppose the railroading of the humiliating "Free Trade Agreement". Attending it were members of civic and public organizations, including the Headquarters of the All-People Movement for Checking the Conclusion of the south Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement, and lawmakers from opposition parties, at least 5 000 people all told.

At the rally speakers noted that people from different walks of life continue to stage candlelight action against the FTA conclusion as they can not remain onlooker to the U.S. highhanded practices.

However, the "Grand National Party" is trying to railroad the agreement, swimming against the people's mindset, they said, contending that this group should be expelled to the U.S.

The conclusion of the FTA with the U.S. will bring only disaster to south Korea, not an opportunity for economic recovery, they said.

To prevent this conclusion is the only way out and all forces should unite to this end, they held.

They urged the GNP to stop the scheme to railroad the "motion calling for the National Assembly ratification of FTA" at once.

Similar candlelight actions were staged in different parts of south Korea, including Kwangju, Pusan, Jonju of North Jolla Province, Ryosu, Sunchon, Kwangyang, Mokpho, Kangjin, Hwasun of South Jolla Province, Changwon, Milyang, Jinju, Kochang, Kimhae, Ryangsan, Namhae of South Kyongsang Province, on the same day.
