Korean Youth's Just Cause Backed at 18th Conference of WFDY

Pyongyang, November 20 (KCNA) -- The 18th Conference of the World Federation of Democratic Youth expressed full support for the Korean people and youth in their efforts to build a thriving socialist nation and reunify the country independently and peacefully.

The conference was held in Lisbon from Nov. 8 to 12.

The Declaration for International Solidarity adopted at the conference extended solidarity to the youth of the DPRK in a drive to achieve independent and peaceful reunification of the Korean Peninsula under the banner of the June 15 North-South Joint Declaration.

It strongly demanded the immediate pullout of the U.S. troops and war hardware from south Korea--the main obstacle lying in the way of Korea's reunification--, establishment of lasting peace-keeping mechanism on the peninsula and the withdrawal of the south Korean authorities' confrontation policy towards the DPRK.

The Resolution on Asia-Pacific Region supported the peaceful reunification of the peninsula free from outside forces' interference.

It also called for grandly celebrating the centenary of birth of President Kim Il Sung as a grand international political festival.

The Political Declaration and resolutions on major themes were adopted at the conference. They accused the U.S. imperialists, the chieftain of the division of the Korean Peninsula, of making war provocations against the DPRK in collusion with its allies.

A letter to leader Kim Jong Il was adopted at the conference.
