Struggle against FTA Launched in S. Korea

Pyongyang, November 12 (KCNA) -- People of different walks of life in south Korea, including members of the Headquarters of the All-People Movement for Checking the Conclusion of south Korea-U.S. Free Trade Agreement, launched a struggle against the conclusion of the FTA with the U.S. in Seoul on Nov. 10.

A rally for checking the "National Assembly" ratification of the agreement took place.

FTA is only for the interests of the U.S. which drove the global economy to crisis, speakers at the rally said, declaring that they would fight until the "Grand National Party" repeals the conclusion of the agreement.

A resolution was read out at the rally.

After the rally, its participants took a demo, marching toward the building of GNP.

Chanting "No FTA!" the demonstrators stubbornly fought against the police firing water cannons at them.

11 of them were walked away by the police and some wounded by its violent repression.

That evening, there was a candlelight rally in Youido with attendance of workers, farmers, students and other citizens and members of opposition parties standing against the conclusion of the humiliating agreement.

The ralliers said that the conclusion of FTA means south Korea's economic annexation to the U.S. and, accordingly, south Korea's economic sovereignty would be deprived and its industry totally destroyed by the U.S.

They called for cooperation with the DPRK to tide over the economic crisis.

The candlelight rally against the FTA conclusion will go on, they warned.
